Once upon a time……..
On one cold dawn about 3 years ago, I wrote what would be my first published post. A couple of days later, I boarded a bus that was the first of the journey I had chosen to take, one I thought would take me to places as a writer. This newsletter (or blog) is an attempt to honour that dawn and the numerous choices I have made in this direction. It’s also an acknowledgement to the many people who’ve been there at various points in this journey.
I am a third-year humanities undergrad, studying at a university that is academically one of the best in my limits. Beyond academics, the university isn’t what I expected it to be. There are a lot of fancy words thrown around every now and then, a whole lot of privileged people and lofty aims, and then there’s a tinge of authoritarian rule.
I read stuff, mostly stuff that has something to do with my life. I amn’t really a fan of classic literature, poetry and the many flowery lines. I like the world in what I read, and I’ve tried to be true to that when I write as well. I like to read about health, disease, death, and lives rather than Keats’ Ode to a nightingale or anything of that sorts.(I know its an immature understanding.)
I like riding bikes, I like nights, I like writing about them. I hope I can travel, not because I like it, rather to discover if I like it. So I guess I should try it once. But this wave of responsibility that has suddenly come over me makes it a bit hard to let go and get on the road. But I guess we will see.
I like getting to know people, only if they don’t make small talk. Being socially awkward helps with this. Not many people make small talk with me, and most of the time I am fine. But I really like getting to know people. So get back to me if you think you have something to share. It may be about something I wrote, about something you or someone else wrote. I’ll appreciate it. Always. It helps to keep things going. It helps to keep in touch with the world beyond my bedroom and my workspace.
